On my way to Sukhothai province in the northern part of Thailand, I stopped along the highway to purchase some boiled "Krachab". "Krachab" is rather uncommon these days, so when I showed my kids, they were surprised by how much the "Krachab" resembles a Thai Water Buffalo: dark with two horns.

In terms of taste, it is sort of like chestnuts.

Hence, in English, it is called "Horn Chestnut" by its taste or "Water Chestnut" by its appearance.

Did you know...

Water Chestnut/Horn Chestnut are water plants that can float.
Its horn-shaped pod are underwater. The younger pods are purple-red while older pods are black with white insides. The older pods are boiled with a bit of salt. When eating it, we peel off the black cover and eat the insides
The pods can be harvested around November - February
Most of these pods are grown in Thailand's Central plain such as Ayuthaya, Ang-Thong, Singhaburi, and Suphanburi provinces.

Dine out at La Ferme, Pattaya, Thailand

Pattaya is just about 200 km. from Bangkok, Thailand. It's a very famous destination, particularly for foreigners who enjoy beaches, fine dining and great nightlife.

In this particular post, I'm featuring an upscale-casual restaurant called "La Ferme" in Pattaya. The restaurant recently opened in June 2012 as an additional part of the Woodlands Hotel&Resort. The name of the restaurant means Farm.
